I finally got them! I bought the Charlotte Olympia 'Kitty' Flats from Shopbop. I've wanted these shoes for YEARS and never got around to purchasing them for several reasons: 1) Charlotte Olympia released the shoe in 2011, when I was a junior in high school 2) They are $495 and 3) I simply never got around to purchasing them.
I had completely forgotten about the Kitty flats and how much I wanted them, until I stumbled across a few throwbacks of the Duchess of Sussex wearing them:
(I also saw them worn by one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Mademoiselle.) I went on the Charlotte Olympia website and the Kitty collection was substantially marked down, up to 50%. I told myself that I was going to hold off on purchasing a pair. I soon regretted it. Charlotte Olympia filed for bankruptcy at the end of 2019 and closed all of their stores. This means that in March 2020, it's incredibly difficult to score a pair of 'Kitty' Flats.
There are a few stores-- Shopbop, YOOX and Thahab-- that have 'Kitty' Flats in stock albeit limited colorways and stocks, although out of the three, YOOX seems to have the most option. And of course, you can always go the pre-loved route (Fashionphile and The Real Real have a few options, last I checked). I am not a big fan of buying designer items, especially shoes, pre-loved; I am always paranoid that I'll end up with an unauthentic product, and the idea of wearing a stranger's shoes kinda grosses me out. I had never heard of Thahab prior to my search, but it's similar to Matches or Net-a-Porter, but based in the Middle East. With everything that's going on, I didn't want to order a product from overseas and have it get caught up in customs, even if shipping was free and the price was just right. YOOX has so many options (not just Kitty flats), but none of their Kitty flats came in the color I wanted, although they did have my size. This meant that Shopbop was my only option. They had the color I wanted (black velvet) in my size (US 8/EU 39).
Now that I am a (semi) functioning adult with a boatload of disposable income, I decided to treat myself and buy a pair. All of the signs were pointing me in that direction, anyways. I have Amazon Prime, and Shopbop is owned by Amazon, so I got free 2-day shipping and the price was reduced. The Kitty flats I purchased are originally $495; I bought them for $346.50 + plus tax. They arrived today and I am in LOVE! They are perfect! I can dress them up and down and most importantly of all, they are true to size.
I'll post some OOTDs featuring them once lockdown is lifted, but until then I'm going to sit and admire my brand new shoes!
